“A dearth of talent”

More and more students from foreign universities are seeking summer training and internships in Indian companies. "But a similar hunger to go out and experience the market is missing in ­Indian students,” stated Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej at a function organized at Bombay University on October 20, 2006 as part of the institution’s 150th year’s celebrations, notes the Hindu­stan Times (October 21, 2006). Adi Godrej: need to en­­courage research Noting that India "is currently facing a dearth of talent,” Godrej stated the solution lay in encouraging research programs in Indian institutes of higher learning. Citing an example of how private players have changed the face of the Indian telecom industry, Godrej stated that privatization of higher education would do much good to the education and resource system of the country, the report noted. Godrej favored reservation in terms of providing opportunity for Indian women who he said "are most underprivileged… not much is being done for them because of vested political interest.”...
