Fancy some chicken farcha this Sunday? Or are you more inclined towards health foods? Want to learn or teach yoga? Or do you want to buy "raw filtered wild forest honey” or sell your flat on an ownership basis "in a decent cosmopolitan building facing the railway line?” Dial-a-Parsi is a WhatsApp group born out of an ethos that Parsis need to help Parsis more, lawyer and App
administrator Hormuz Mehta told Parsiana on July 7, 2022. Other administrators of the group are make-up artist and interior stylist Arshis Javeri, social worker Pearl Tirandaz and chief executive officer of the Zoroastrian Building Funds Rumy Zarir.
"People are now living on WhatsApp … nobody remembers Facebook… We want to help locate people…help find information about Parsi products and services,” Mehta stated. "We want to be a one-stop shop for all entrepreneurs.” The idea germinated during the run-up to the May 29 Bombay Parsi Punchayet elections this year. "Some of us wanted to do something constructive for the community.” Mehta stated.
Due to the limitations imposed by WhatsApp where each group can have only 500 members, Dial-a-Parsi has split up into four groups. Critical messages pertaining to urgent fundraising are posted on all groups, Mehta said.
"It is a helpline of sorts for Parsis,” states the group description. "No politics, no good mornings, no news,” state the administrators in bold print. "Everyone is welcome to join… we have a few members from Poona, Dubai and a couple from the USA too,” Mehta noted.
