The editors’ commendable rebuttal of Dr Nusli Pocha’s letter "Avatar of the age” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 7, 2015) is an excellent eye-opener to Parsis who believe, like members of many other religions, that theirs is the only way to salvation. The supercilious sarcasm in the last five lines of the doctor’s letter is a sorry contrast to the spirit of tolerance and enlightenment one might hope for in the 21st century.
Avatar Meher Baba’s teachings and philosophy first embraces and then transcends all religions. If I, a Zoroastrian, also believe in the divinity of Christ, I do not become any less of a Zoroastrian, and no one has the right to deny me that.
Bigotry breeds hate, and hate is all corroding. That is what ails the conservative diehards of our community and, as the editors say, is what is driving the young out of our fold. Dr HIRJI S. ADENWALLA
