Kaikhusru Irani of Palghar Taluka Rifle Club won one gold and one silver at the 33rd Maharashtra State Shooting Championship held at the Maharashtra Rifle Association from September 28 to October 5, 2016, notes a write-up on the shooter. Irani won gold in 50 m Free Pistol with a score of 541 with his nearest contender winning a silver with a score of 538, and the bronze winner scoring 537. In the 25 m Center Fire Pistol event, Irani won silver with a score of 567. The gold winner scored 577 and the bronze winner 561. Presiding over the medal ceremony on October 5 was additional municipal commissioner of Bombay Dr Sanjay Mukherjee and Arjuna awardee Ashok Pandit.

Last December, Irani was conferred the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati Award, the highest sporting award that is presented by the government of Maharashtra yearly to the most deserving sportsperson in each discipline. He has been representing Maharashtra State at various state and national shooting competitions since 2004 (see "Mark the man,” Sports, Parsiana, January 7, 2009).
