In my letter "A story of two funerals" (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, June 21, 2017), I had written about our dakhmas being defunct. Our dear departed are left for snakes and rats to devour, and through the solar reflectors the bodies are being charred, with the bones being buried in the Doongerwadi grounds.
Since cremation is against our religion, I had suggested to the Bombay Parsi Punchayet chairman and trustees that in the vast area of the Doongerwadi a plot should be allotted for an aramgah. People will prefer burial to cremation as is done in all places in India and the world where there are no dakhmas.
