Unkept promises to priests

The Parsi priests are not the only ones who have been denied the monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 promised by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. Imams in Delhi too have not received from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) their monthly emoluments of Rs 18,000 for the past 17 months. But that has not deterred the AAP from further promising a "salary” of Rs 18,000 to priests engaged in Hindu temples and Sikh gurudwaras, notes The Free Press Journal of December 31, 2024. Former Delhi chief minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal said the priests would be paid under the Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana, registration for which was scheduled to begin on January 7, 2025.
