Parsi surnames

On May 18, 2024 the Poona Zarthosti Seva Mandal (PZSM) organized a talk by Kaevan Umrigar (pictured) of Bombay, titled "Sodawaterbottleopenerwalla.” Umrigar takes a keen interest in finding out the origins of Parsi surnames. His research has taken him to many nooks and corners of the country.  An engineer by profession with a passion for videography, Umrigar has made several films on Parsi culture and other themes. He is also into advertising.  The talk was followed by a round of questions and answers, and a contributory dinner catered by Jehabux Desai that cost attendees a mere Rs 300.  The PZSM and the Zoroastrian community in Poona are thankful to Umrigar for giving us this opportunity to learn about our heritage. Special thanks are due to volunteers from the Zoroastrian Youth Association who helped with the arrangements and to the trustees of the Pudumjee Hall, Khorshedwadi, located in the compound of the Komra Agiary, for the free use of the premises.   Those who would like to contact Umrigar to give such talks may approach the undersigned for more information.   MABRIN NANAVATTI Poona mabrrin@gmail.com ...
