In the letter "Bring them back” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, October 7-20, 2024) which refers to the Editorial Viewpoint of the same name (Parsiana, August 21-September 6, 2024) about non acceptance of non-Parsi spouses into the religion, the editors have quoted from the judgment of Bombay High Court Justice Frank Beaman in the 1908 Petit vs Jeejeebhoy (The Parsi Punchayet) case.
The 1908 judgment predates Indian independence, before Indians gave themselves a Constitution that bars discrimination based on gender and religion. It is time to revisit the judgment which is outdated and discriminatory.

The judgment is being contested both in the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court for many years.
