With a history of supporting the Indian liberal movement for nearly four decades, entrepreneur Naozer Aga (pictured), chairman emeritus of Virat Industries Limited and chief executive officer of Armayesh group of companies, is now involved with the Swarna Bharat Party (SBP), a liberal political party formed in 2014. Appointed national mentor of the SBP, Aga will oversee its functioning, mainly in matters of direction, policy and strategy, he revealed in an email sent to Parsiana.
The SBP wishes to file a writ petition in the Supreme Court to abolish the swearing of allegiance to the principles of socialism, which is a requirement for the registration of every political party in India under The Representation of the People Act. The SBP is in need of legal assistance/representation for filing the writ which is similar to the one filed in the 1990s in the Bombay High Court by S. V. Raju and L. R. Sampat on behalf of the Swatantra Party (Maharashtra), Aga writes. As both Raju and Sampat are now deceased, the Swatantra writ has lapsed, he explains. Aga may be contacted by email at aganaozer@yahoo.co.in
