"We will put emphasis on sports even with our limited number of boys and girls, arrange coaching for them and improve the infrastructure of our club tent and fencing repairs, to start with....Our aim would be to get our hockey team back in the top division, push some of our youngsters to play for the Cricket team in the League and also in the Under 17 League of the Indian Football Association (West Bengal). Due to a dearth of youngsters we have not been able to put up a team in the Basketball League, under the Women's Association. This we will surely do for the coming season,” stated Cyrus Confectioner, the new president of the Calcutta Parsee Club in an email to Parsiana on September 24, 2024. Vice president for 25 years, Confectioner took over from Rustom Daroga at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the 116-year-old Club on September 7. Daroga told Parsiana on September 9 that he stepped down for personal reasons, as did Farhad Master, socials-in-charge. Firoza Mogrelia is the new vice president, with Khushmand Buchia coming in as socials-in-charge.
New CPC president Cyrus Confectioner
The report of the managing committee for the period August 26, 2023 (date of the last AGM) till the current AGM listed various sports activities — hosting of five-a-side football tournaments; restarting of annual athletics after a gap of nearly three years; participation in the Surat Pentangular Cricket match (see "Playing in the pentagon,” Sports, Parsiana, January 7-20, 2024).
On the social front, members enjoyed a Christmas party, annual food bazaar (which saw 500 visitors), a picnic, a sunset cruise on the River Hooghly among other annual events.
Financially, the current year was "the best in recent times,” with a profit of Rs 8.32 lakhs vs Rs 5.70 lakhs last year, stated the report. The managing committee ascribed this increase to donations and grants and to higher collections at the football tournaments.
