A settlement worked out between the Mumbai Mazdoor Sabha (MMS) on behalf of the workmen of the N. N. and R. N. Wadia Baugs — Ness Baug, Cusrow Baug and Nowroz Baug — and trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) has resulted in a 40% increase in wages and allowances, informs a press release received from Chandbibi Zaidi, president and Dhunji Naterwalla, general secretary of MMS.
The workmen will receive a gross increase of Rs 3,300 to Rs 3,650 per month in wages and allowances along with other benefits like Mediclaim of Rs 1,25,000, three months’ additional wages on retirement, shoe allowance of Rs 1,000 per annum, funeral expense of Rs 6,000 in case of death, marriage gift of Rs 4,000, retirement gift of Rs 4,000 on completion of 25 years of service and Rs 6,000 on completion of 30 years of service.
The terms were negotiated between BPP trustees Zarir Bhathena and Viraf Mehta and Zaidi and Naterwalla. The settlement, for a three-year period commencing on January 1, 2015 up to December 31, 2017, was signed on April 27, 2016, the press release notes.
The agreement between the BPP and the Union for the trust’s employees is still pending.
