Jhabvala joins UN

Renana Jhabvala, Ahmedabad based social worker and Padma Shri recipient will soon join the United Nations Women’s Panel in New York where she will work for economic empowerment and social justice for women.        Renana Jhabvala: social justice for women   The daughter of novelist and screenplay writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and well known architect Cyrus Jhabvala, she has been active for a long time in the field of women’s rights and involved in policy issues relating to poor women in the informal economy, promoting women’s leadership in driving sustainable, inclusive and environmentally sensitive economic growth. United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon explains in his communication to Jhabvala, "I am confident that gender equality and women’s empowerment and specifically women’s economic empowerment are intrinsic to achieving the sustainable development goals.
