The following article in the online newsletter Live History India titled "Sanjan: Digging deep into history” by Dr Kurush Dalal may be of interest to readers: https://www.livehistoryindia.com/cover-story/2019/09/22/sanjan-digging-deep-into-history Google Earth (put in the search term "Sanjan”) still shows the Varoli River with a mouth wide enough to allow the smaller ocean going ships of 1,200 years ago, although the river near Sanjan itself 5 km upstream is now silted over. This is the response from a historian to whom I had sent a query or statement for his comment: "As opposed to the tradition of the sudden arrival of one ship carrying ‘Zoroastrian refugees fleeing religious persecution by Muslims’ a perhaps more plausible explanation is that there was prior ongoing trade between the Persian Gulf and ports in Gujarat and that some Zoroastrian Persians were in Gujarat, long beforehand.” Some years ago, I went up the hill where the Bahrot Caves are situated but found only empty caves, obviously excavated by humans, a well and some foundations, but little else. But there is a great 180 degree view from the top of the hill, obviously useful for defensive purposes from the attacks of the invaders.   Prof  FAROK J.
